STEP 1: LEAVE THE OIL IN LONG ENOUGH.

Hair oil treatments can range from needing to be left on for 10 minutes to nourishing your strands overnight. It all depends on your hair and your oil of choice. Many are eager to scrub the oil out of their strands before it has worked its magic. Be sure you leave your oil in long enough.

STEP 2: FIND THE RIGHT SHAMPOO.

Any ol’ shampoo won’t do when it comes to rinsing the oil out of your hair. Again, finding the right one for you will depend on your hair type, texture, and the oil used. One thing’s for sure, you’ll want to use a clarifying shampoo. A clarifying shampoo will offer a deeper clean than your go-to shampoo. They’re tough on grease and product buildup, so you can be sure they’ll wash all the hair oil out of your tresses.

STEP 3: WASH HAIR OIL OUT WITH SAID SHAMPOO.

Once you’ve found the right clarifying shampoo for your needs, it’s time to use it. This is where we really get into how to wash your hair after using hair oil. Be sure to use warm water, as cold water can make some oils solidify on your stands. And that is not something you should have to deal with. You may need to shampoo a few times to get out the oil, though you’ll want to make sure you don’t overuse your shampoo. Doing so can undo the work the hair oil treatment just did.

STEP 4: USE A HAIR RINSE TO GET RID OF EXCESS HAIR OIL.

You can get rid of excess oil gently by using a hair rinse. We’re here to remind you once more that the rinse you use will depend on your hair and your oil. There are a number of rinses you can use to wash out the excess oil, including lemon, apple cider vinegar, and much more. The choice is yours.

STEP 5: FOLLOW UP WITH CONDITIONER The final step in washing out your hair oil is finishing with conditioner. After you used the clarifying shampoo and rinse on your strands, they’ll be ready for the added moisture. The best part about the final step is that you can virtually use any conditioner you already have. As long as it gives your locks the nourishment they need, you’re all set.
